What is call origination?
Call origination, also known as voice origination, is an incoming call. It refers to the act of handling the originating call and delivering it to you. Even though it is called call origination, you are not originating the call. The call first goes to your provider and then they route it to you.
The telecom industry is moving from plain old telephone service (POTS) to voice over internet protocol (VoIP), which changes the way call origination works. A packet switch technology is used and digitizes the voice and then sends the data to the recipient. Call origination is the point where the call started, usually on the public switched telephone network (PSTN). It is then transferred to the internet telephone service provider (ITSP) over the internet to a destination point.
In detail, voice data is transferred through a session initiation protocol (SIP) trunk, also known as SIP trunk, which is a digital telephone line that VoIP providers use to connect your private branch exchange (PBX) or telephone system. The initiated call is handed off to an exchange or VoIP endpoint for completion.
